On 25 February 2013, the students
and the faculty members of St. Joseph’s College, Lalbagh Road, Bangalore, celebrated
the 130 Years of St. Joseph’s College and 75 Years of Jesuits’ Presence in
Bangalore, here at the college chapel.
The Mass was celebrated by
Bishop of Chickmagular, Rev. Anthony Swami, an aluminas. The con-celebrants for the "Thanksgiving Mass" were Dr. Fr. Praveen Martis SJ, Rector, Dr. Fr. Daniel Fernandes SJ, Principal,
Fr. Clarenc D’ Souza SJ, Vice-Princiapl, Fr. Denzil Lobo SJ, and Fr. Francis
Arackal OP, Director of Mass Communication Department. In his inaugural
address, the Bishop said, “The Jesuits have been promoting quality education
ever since the first arrival of St. Francis Xavier, the first Jesuit who came
to India in 1542, and have brought tremendous changes in the society by making
students men and women for others.” He continued to affirm, “The Jesuits’
pattern of education is reaching out to different classes of people in the
society, the rich and the poor, Christians and non-Christians, but there is
always preferential option for the poor.”
The students of All India
Catholic University Federation (AICUF) unit in St. Joseph’s College formed an
angelic choir for the Eucharistic celebration and made the liturgy worship more
prayerful and meaningful.
