The history of AICUF Karnataka tells that AICUF unit in St. Joseph's College, Bangalore, started before 1956. As per the record, "On 18th -20th May, 1956, the Second National Congress was held in St. Joseph's College, Bangalore. The theme of the Congress "For a Better World". (Source: "Milestones in AICUF Since 1924", pg 112, An AICUF Publication, 1999, Chennai,)
Ever since then, the AICUFers of St. Joseph's College took an active role in making a new and just society. But unfortunately, in 1980's, AICUF was suppressed in many states of India, and the AICUF units in Karnataka also faced the wave of suppression. This had made the old AICUF units of Bangalore to come up with a new name called "Bangalore Catholic Students' Association (BACSA)".
To restart AICUF in St. Joseph's College, Dr. Fr. Daniel Fernandes SJ, Principal of St. Joseph's College, sent five students: Sch. P V Joseph Mang Pu SJ, Aditi D'Souza, Nigel John, Persis Michael, and Roger Joseph, to attend a seminar conducted by AICUF National Secretariat, in Chennai, from 13th to 16th January 2012.
